We are all creative.
Whether it’s modifying the handle of a punch-needle tool so it fits more comfortably in your hand, experimenting with natural dyes, designing size-inclusive knitting patterns, running a sheep farm, advocating for a sustainable eco-friendly fibre industry—or creating a platform to share these stories with the world.
Digits & Threads is a celebration of creativity, and while I am sad to see it end I take comfort in knowing that all of you, the people who made this publication so special, are still out there—still adding wonder to the world.
It’s also a celebration of community—and connection. It was a rainy November night in 2018 when I first met Kate Atherley in an introductory sock knitting class at my local yarn store, Yarns Untangled. We kept in touch (mostly me pestering her with sock knitting questions), and, in 2020, when she shared her excitement about creating a platform to tell Canadian fibre stories, I jumped in with both feet—first as a Founding Member, then as a contributor, and, since 2022, as your copyeditor. In that time, it has been my great privilege to help bring more than 230 articles—many of them written by our members—to life on the virtual pages of Digits & Threads. I’ve learned more than I could ever have imagined about the wonders of the fibre world, become part of a vibrant community, and made lifelong friends.
Today, as we publish our last issue, I am so very grateful—to all the people and organizations who graciously shared their stories with our writers, to our members and contributors for being the heart of this vibrant community, and lastly, to Kim and Kate for creating this space and trusting me to be their wordherder.
Creativity is a gift we give ourselves—a reminder of all the wonder that exists in the world—and so, as we move on to new adventures in different pastures, I have one final request: share that gift. The world needs it now more than ever.
