Ed. note: We are pleased to post this note from Digits & Threads member Barbara Williams. D&T is not directly involved with this effort; please address questions to Barbara or to the Campaign for Wool.
Back in October, 2021, and May, 2022, Digits & Threads reported on the activities of The Campaign for Wool – Canadian Wool Council (CFW-CWC) as it works to increase the visibility and viability of the Canadian wool value chain. Recently, Jane Underhill, strategy consultant to the CFW/CWC and president of Wool Advocates, put out a request for volunteer assistance in compiling a list of all Canadian wool mills for planning purposes.
While the larger mills are generally well publicized (e.g., Custom Woolen Mills, Briggs & Little), there are many mini-mills that provide more localized services to farmers and other stakeholders. Jane is looking for mills that provide services in the areas of wool scouring, carding, spinning, knitting, felting and/or weaving, using Canadian wool.
My name is Barbara Williams, and I offered to help Jane with this activity. I live on the West Coast of Canada and am somewhat familiar with mills in my area. But I have little information about the rest of the nation. I am putting out a request to the Digits & Threads membership to assist in this.
How to Submit a Canadian Mill Listing
Please send information about mills you know about to my email address—b.j.williams1335@gmail.com—with CANADIAN MILLS in the subject line. Include the name of the mill, its province or territory, and contact information for it (for example, a website). This is all I am asking for currently. If anyone would like to help further, you can also send an email to me offering your assistance.
Thank you.
